At Thorntons Windows, we want our customers to feel confident in every aspect of their window and door installation, from choosing the right products to receiving the correct certification once the work is complete.
We are pleased to announce that we are now a FENSA Approved Installer. Having previously registered eligible installations through another certification provider, we have now moved to FENSA.
For our customers, this offers a recognised way to demonstrate that qualifying replacement window and door installations meet the relevant Building Regulations.
What is FENSA?
FENSA is a government-authorised scheme that monitors compliance with Building Regulations for replacement windows and doors in England and Wales.
FENSA Approved Installers are assessed regularly to check that they continue to meet the scheme’s requirements. Our membership reflects our commitment to professional installation and giving homeowners confidence in the work we carry out.
What are the benefits for our customers?
Evidence of Building Regulations compliance
For eligible installations, your FENSA certificate provides evidence that your replacement windows and doors comply with the relevant Building Regulations, including energy efficiency requirements. It also confirms that the installation has been registered with the local council.
A simpler certification process
Using a FENSA Approved Installer means qualifying work can be registered through the scheme, avoiding the need for you to arrange a separate Building Control inspection for that installation.
At Thorntons, we handle the registration of eligible work so you receive the certification you need once your installation is complete.
Added protection for your installation guarantee
Eligible installations also benefit from an insurance-backed guarantee. This provides protection for the installer’s written guarantee if the installer ceases trading, subject to the policy’s terms.
The insurance policy is a separate document from your FENSA certificate, so both should be kept safely with your installation paperwork.
Useful paperwork when selling your home
When you sell your property, you may be asked to provide evidence that replacement windows and doors comply with Building Regulations.
Keeping your FENSA certificate with your property documents makes this information readily available and can help avoid delays caused by missing paperwork.
Which installations are covered?
FENSA applies to qualifying replacement window and external door installations in existing homes. Its scope does not include windows and doors installed as part of new builds, new extensions, new conservatories or porches, or work on commercial properties.
As Thorntons offers a wider range of home improvement and construction services, we will explain the certification or approval requirements relevant to your particular project.
A family business you can rely on
As a family-run business established in 1980, Thorntons Windows combines personal service with experience in helping homeowners improve their properties.
Our move to FENSA supports that approach, providing clear certification for eligible installations alongside the care and attention our customers expect.
